Mont St Michel

A UNESCO world heritage site and the second most visited place in France. Mont St Michel was created after Bishop Aubert of Avranches had a vision from Archangel Michel that ordered him to build a sanctuary on the isolated granite rock that is surrounded by the sea when the tide is in. Completed in 708 the monastery was founded in the 10th century. Not only historically interesting but the view and architecture are breathtaking. You can reach it in 90 mins from our farmhouse. Even if you have left it to the last minute you can create a last minute holiday to include all these sites. For the official Mont St Michel site click here.

MILES OF EMPTY SANDY BEACHES

Whilst everyone else stresses to get to the south of France and its crowded beaches the wise stop at Normandy with its miles of golden sandy beaches. The west coast of Normandy has beaches for everyone. From family beaches, nature lovers beaches, and those just wanting to rest and relax. On a good day you can see dolphins and the Channel islands. Be sure to pack your sun cream and enjoy a picnic on the beach.  The north of Normandy has the dramatic and breathtaking peninsula whilst the east coast has rolling hills that create tiny beaches and inlets.
You could be on your own tropical island. Our favourite beach is Barneville-Cartaret. Actually 2 beaches separated into two bays. The family beach is protected by the headland and life guards. Take a walk around the headland underneath the lighthouse where you will pass an ancient church ruin and fort and you will discover miles and miles of unspoilt beach flanked by sand dunes.
