Les Pont d'Ouve Nature Reserve

Five minutes from our Normandy bed and breakfast is the Pont d'Ouve nature reserve ideal for bird watchers. With its new visitor center opened in 2009 it a must for nature lovers. There are two ways to explore the marshland.
Firstly you have the nature walks. You can choose various lengths of walks from a mile to 4 miles. The paths are equipped with entertaining and educational kiosks as you walk through flood meadows. There are various observatories where you can watch the birds in their natural habitat.

Secondly you can take a boat trip around the marshland rivers. The trip time are various from three hours to full days that include stops at interesting landmarks.
There is a variety of birds to be found from lapwing, snipe, teal and other ducks as well as the marsh harrier and peregrine falcon. Other birds include the sedge warbler and white storks.

Although the island is 30,000 square meters access is limited to 500 people a day. Trips to the island via the amphibious duck boats need to be pre-booked. Many migrating birds stop here including Little Egret, Wigeon, Great Black-backed Gull, Eider, Common Shelduck and Herring Gull. The towers have been classed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

As Normandy is almost a peninsula there is plenty of opportunity to other wildlife and birds from the Bay of Mont St Michel to Gatteville lighthouse.
In addition our are has disused railway tracks that have been restored for walkers and cyclist. The flat walkways in an elevated position give you a birds eye view of the real Normandy.
